Murphy's Law

When I got the brakes on my car fixed the first time, I took it to a national chain franchise with the idea that surely I would live somewhere where there would always be one and I could get them fixed under warranty if needed. Ha Ha!

When I moved to my present location, I found out that the local franchise had closed and the mechanic I went to at another national chain franchise mocked the original place I went stating that they were a bunch of crooks. I had my brakes replaced by the second national chain franchise thinking again if I need to have them replaced, I am good since they also offered a lifetime warranty. Ha Ha!

Today, when my husband attempted to call to make an appointment, the number has been disconnected and they are no longer in business. I think this is what is called "Murphy's Law."

A Fairy Tale

Once upon a time there was a lady who was the "Toad Queen." She obtained this title because every boy she kissed didn't turn into princes. Instead they each turned into BIG, UGLY TOADS!
Then 3 1/2 years ago the Toad Queen met another boy. This boy was different, but she just wasn't sure how. The night before their first date, she gave the boy her "Toad Test" to see what type of "warts" he had. While he did have some, she wanted to wait and see just how many more there were and to see if he would actually turn into a toad.
Well, this boy wooed the Toad Queen in every way possible to just get to be her boyfriend. He sent her 2 dozen roses and she still said no. He sent 1 dozen roses a week later. She still said no. He took to her dinner, took her on trips, made her dinner, bought her several things, and she still said no.
Finally, on the day of giving thanks she said yes and then 2 weeks later she said yes again for a chance at a lifetime with this boy. For you see, the Toad Queen realized that this boy was not a toad, but was an actual prince and would always treat her like a queen.
So three years ago tomorrow, these two were married in a fairytale wedding complete with a beach at sunset, a walk along the ocean, and letting butterflies go with their dreams and prayers on their wings. And they have lived happily ever after!
Happy Anniversary, My Prince and Knight In Shining Armor!

A Heart Melting Moment

Tonight as I sang my little one to sleep he spit out his pacifier to sing (aka coo) along with me. How can that not just make your heart melt?!

For My Nephews In Montana

Photo courtesy of bing.com: Unusual Hotels

Try and get Mom and Dad to take you here:

The Caboose Motel's name is simple yet accurate: The guestrooms are in individual train cabooses, which once trailed trains from classic rail lines such as the Santa Fe and Great Northern. The Caboose Motel is part of the Railroad Park Resort in Dunsmuir, Calif., which has a number of other historic train cars for you to explore, including a few that contain a restaurant and lounge. If you like trains, it's worth exploring Dunsmuir itself; the town has a long history as a railroad community. (From Bing.com)

My Mommy IQ Is Increasing!

For the past couple of weeks, Jim and I haven't been able to figure out why our little man wouldn't stay down for his full nap times. Consequently, he was cranky and so were we. Then yesterday, I figured it out!

Because we live on a street that is unfortunately connected to a high school and middle school, there are obnoxious teenage drivers that drive up and down our street like maniacs with their music blaring and honking their horns before school, during lunch period, and after school. Because of little man's new sleeping schedule, the aforementioned times matched up with his nap times. Since his room is at the front of the house, he gets the full brunt of the traffic noise. ggggggrrrrrrrr Reason #3,652 why we can't wait to move! (Where is a cop when you need one?!)

At least I finally figured it out so we could make necessary adjustments.

Motherhood Lessons Learned

When my husband and I were still contemplating if we could/wanted to have children, I had a visit with my Relief Society President. I poured my heart out to her with the issues we were dealing with and wondering if this was even a path we wanted to embark upon. There was something to be said with our ability to load up the car on a whim and go wherever we wanted, when we wanted. This well meaning lady told me that by us having a child that would in no way change. I chuckled to myself, because I knew for sure that was not true. I had too many friends and family that had babies, and I remembered all too well how our time to "hang out" was immediately changed to dictation by this little creature that could only sleep, poop, and cry.

Now as I begin my own adventure in motherhood there are certain life lessons that I have learned. One of these lessons are what are luxuries. A luxury is something that in your "old life" you took for granted as common every day things that you thought "everyone did". However, as a new mom they suddenly become something you long for and cherish any chance you can partake in the activity. For example:

1. A long hot shower or sometimes a shower period
2. REALLY cleaning the house
3. Doing my makeup
4. Doing my hair in something other than a ponytail or thrown together bun
5. Reading an entire chapter in a book
6. Completing a craft project in one setting
7. Completing any project in one setting
8. Alone time
9. Sleeping in
10. A full night's sleep without waking for crying baby or even anticipating crying baby
11. Clean clothes - Wearing the same outfit the entire day and it stays spit-up free

But what can I say. To exchange all of this for a coo or a smile from a little boy who thinks you are the greatest thing in the world. They can just stay luxuries. I have more important things to do.

Sometimes I Scare Myself

For the last 3 days I have had to take an online workshop to be able to stay approved for one of the classes that I teach. Unfortunately, little man has decided that he would throw us for a loop and complete change his sleeping/eating schedule so I am running on very little sleep. Also, I have been essentially blind while doing this because my eye doctor had to put drops in my eyes that dilated them for 3 - 5 days to force my eyes to use my contacts more efficiently (long story). My husband had to put the "handicap" function on the computer so I could kind of see the screen and with it set to extreme zoom read the necessary material and type my assignments. It's been a really interesting experience.

Tonight is the last night of the workshop and I was reviewing some of my work that I had posted in the classroom, and had to chuckle to myself. One in particular I had to re-read several times, because 1. I don't remember writing it, but I know that I did. 2. It was so well-written and sounded so much like a "professor" answer. LOL It scares me that I could literally do this "in my sleep."

When I Grow Up . . .

When I grow up, I want to be this guy:

and have my own tv show where all I have to do is travel around the country and try different food, all expenses paid, at places that usually are really good. I wouldn't get fat because I would just have to take 1 or 2 bites and if I really liked it, got the whole meal free. I mean, seriously, where do I sign up?!

Happy Birthday, Jay!!

Happy Birthday, Jay!!!
I am sorry I am one day late! I plead sleep-deprived mother syndrome.
Thanks for being such a great friend! You have been such a great support throughout the years, especially when it came to step-parenting woes.
For those of you who don't know, Jaylene is amazingly talented especially when it comes to craftiness. She makes the most amazing life-like bouquets and other floral arrangements out of fruit leather, just as an example.

I Want To . . . Maybe I Don't

Isn't it funny how there are things that you just can't wait to begin, and then when you get it after awhile it's like . . "Eh, I'm done with it"? i.e. nylons I couldn't wait to wear nylons when I was a kid. That's what the "big" girls did. Now: I can't wait to take the suckers off, and avoid wearing them whenever possible. I can see why men quit wearing them YEARS ago. LOL
