I just had to bust this myth as well:
Myth: If you already have one child, you know you are fertile and will have no problems conceiving again.
Oh, how I wish this was true!
Oh, how I wish I never had to see a negative pregnancy test again when I would give anything for those two little lines.
Oh, how I wish that I did not feel that every month I was just throwing money in the trash, wasted on unsuccessful fertility treatments, without any successful results.
Oh, how I wish I did not see the dream of having a biological sibling for my son slowly fade away.
Oh, how I wish I could have more dignity and privacy as I go through this struggle. Instead my doctor, her two nurses, her physician assistant, the ultrasound tech, the receptionist, the pharmacist, my son’s babysitter, my husband’s employer, etc. all know what day I am on in my cycle due to the very specific dates various treatments/medications have to occur. (How many “fertile” women get to say the same?)
Oh, how I wish that instead of contemplating if I should sell or give away our nursery furniture, I was preparing it for a new owner.
Oh, how I wish that I too could join in so many other women’s joyous announcement of an upcoming birth.
Oh, how I wish my husband could understand saying, “Let’s try one more time,” can lead to such anxiety and frustration, especially when you know that only you are the reason there is an issue.
Oh, how I wish there was not a limit as to what types of treatments can be done or there would be a better way of having a higher success rate for a treatment.
Oh, how I wish that the nausea, mood swings, headaches, body aches, and insomnia, or excessive exhaustion were due to a pregnancy and not to incessant medications and treatments that seem to lead to nowhere.
Oh, how I wish I the money we are spending monthly could be spent towards setting up a nursery, buying clothes for a new little one, etc. instead of medical bills that are not producing positive results.
Oh, how I wish this myth was true!
