Jim and I decided that we couldn't be cooped up in the house in anymore so after he installed a new electrical outlet and breaker for the garage, I played hooky from school and we went to Craters of the Moon. It is located in the middle of nowhere 84 miles west of Idaho Falls.
It was a nice drive and the kind of thing that it was good to see at least once just to say you did. But I would not recommend it if you have small, rambunctious kids. The lava rocks and trees would be too tempting for climbing and since you are only supposed to stay on the paved path, this could be a full-time job just wrangling the kiddos.
Here is some of the "wildlife" we saw. There were dragonflies everywhere.

A tree with "witches broom." It is a condition that is caused by humans knocking of the mistletoe that grows on the pine trees. Humans thought they were doing the trees good by knocking this off since it caused the trees to weaken. However, instead this caused the trees to grow in a gnarled mess and eventually killed the tree. They were kind of cool to see.
