Guthrie, Oklahoma

Guthrie is the name of the town Jim grew up in. It's about an hour north of Oklahoma City. We were there when it was the 89er Days, which are in commemoration of the land rush in Oklahoma. (For the Boyd members of those reading this, our ancestors did participate in this rush. The land they settled is the land shown in my previous post, for at least the Dunkin family.)

Guthrie was the original capital of Oklahoma but due to some slick politicking the 1st Governer moved the capital to Oklahoma City were it is today. Unfortunately, that decision could have help to cause the OKC Bombing since Timothy McVeigh wanted to hit the "heart" of America since Oklahoma City is in the center of the United States.

Guthrie is a cute town and reminds me a lot of were I grew up in Teton Valley, but a little more sophisticated. Jim's dad was the only dentist there for a long time and is still located in the same office he started in. His parents also live in the same house he grew up in. I met all of the family and just loved all of them. They remind me a lot of my Dad's side of the family so it must be an Oklahoma thing.

While we were there, the weather was beautiful and perfect. We actually lucked out because the day after we left a really bad storm came in and they had tornado warnings and watches. Those of you who know me, tornados are NOT my idea of a good time since I grew up with them in Missouri.

Overall, it was a great visit and I can't wait to go back.
