Here is Michelle's birthday cake. She wanted a "fairytale" type of a cake with fairies, butterflies, and flowers. I think she was pretty happy with it.
The bottom layer is two layers of vanilla cake and the top is two layers of carrot cake. (At her request) Both had a cream cheese filling with a buttercream frosting. (I should have used more buttercream so I could have had a smoother finish. I'm learning!) Everything was edible, except the Tink figurines and the dowels to support the upper layer.
We were able to use spray paint icing, edible markers and some other new techniques, and like the others we have done, we are learning things we will do differently and things we will do the same. It's always a learning process and always fun to try new challenges. The whole thing took about 12 hours to make, and was definitely a learning process. Thank goodness Jim was able to help out!

That cake is amazing.
12 HOURS!!! Wow. I'm very impressed. I could never spend that long on a cake. Although, I do think that you are creating a work of art--I can respect that.
It is really beautiful...
I am super impressed- look at you being all creative! I'm Michelle loved it, who wouldn't.
Cool!! I always get in way over my head with cakes. Something that I think should take 2-3 hours generally takes far longer...like your 12. Rachel is requesting another castle cake this year, so I'm gearing up for that in the next couple of weeks.
Too bad I'm not closer. I have the cutest castle cake pattern in one of my kid cookbooks.
