Well, my class is ending in less than an hour and out of 11 students that started the course, I have a whopping 4 that turned in their final!
4 - quit the course for various reasons - At least 1 was to get the financial aid and then bail on the class. It will suck when their tax refunds and/or paychecks are garnished for failure to pay back their loans and won't be eligible for future financial aid due to failure to progress in school.
1 - only "checked in" and did not submit any assignments - stated she wanted to purposely flunk to prove to everyone that she did not belong in college
1 -sent a message that her internet had been shut off so she was not going to finish the class (This was sent on the day the final was due. Plus how can you log in to the class and submit a message if your internet has already been turned off and it is your only internet you have access to?)
1 - sent a message today stating she would not finish the course due to her grade being so low (Now she has guaranteed a F!) Forget the fact that almost all of her assignments were late and several were missing.
Oh well. I still get paid the same and have less papers to grade. It's going to stink when they realize that the format for classes are changing next month and every facilitator will be setting up their own classroom with their own assignments. Consequently, re-using old papers and/or buying them from a paper bank will not be helpful for classes they have taken up to this point. Oh well. I have my piece of paper and did my time.
For those who did turn in their final, it was really fun to see them progress and "get it". I wish more people could value an education.
